Orewa

Just 15 minutes North of Albany is the beautiful seaside town of Orewa. Once noted as a popular holiday destination, Orewa has developed into a bustling beach suburb with a vibrant shopping centre and myriad community activities.

The long strip of beach on the east coast is the gateway to the Hibiscus Coast. In summer the beach comes alive with locals and visitors from further afield. The Surf Club is a hub of community activity over summer, there are communal barbecues and play areas to take advantage of on the reserve, and you simply just need to step across the street to reach local eateries for a bite to eat or a cool drink.

Kite surfing, stand-up paddle boarding, surfing and kayaking are all popular activities along Orewa Beach. The 7km long Te Ara Tahuna Estuary cycleway and walkway is also popular for leisurely walks or fitness circuits, connecting Orewa to Millwater and surrounding areas.

Increasingly a popular choice for retirees and those seeking a more laid-back way of life, Orewa offers a relaxed vibe, but still with plenty of action to keep you busy, with clubs, community clubs and groups, sports, theatre, leisure activities, retail and restaurants and all the amenities you could need, right in your neighbourhood.

The rest of the Whangaparaoa Peninsula is there to be explored, while Matakana and beyond is only a short drive away. It’s a lifestyle you’ll fall in love with, a world away from the busy-ness of the city, yet only a short commute if needed.
